A well-known TV reporter is murdered and her colleague, Ben Murray, has to produce her obituary for the news bulletins. Ben commutes each day with another obit writer, Steve Graham of the National Herald newspaper. While Ben deals with the famous, Steve writes about the common man or woman, some of them particularly common. Though their approach differs, they both agree that obituaries are about life not death. The pair and their friends suffer the travails known to all commuters and encounter various odd characters on their journeys. When Steve decides to follow one out of sheer curiosity, he accidentally becomes embroiled in an ever-widening web of mystery and intrigue that provides fodder for his craft. It also sucks in Ben and others in his commuting clique. This is a comic murder mystery - The Newsroom meets Six Feet Under - that also lifts the lid on the art and the pitfalls of obituary writing.
